Applicant
Definition: An application for patent filed under 35 U.S.C. 111(a) that includes all types of patent applications (i.e., utility, design, plant, and reissue) except provisional applications.
First to invent
Definition: In some countries, the applicant who is the first to invent will be awarded the patent over all others.
Identification of Goods and Services Manual
Definition: This manual lists numerous examples of identifications of goods and services that are acceptable to the USPTO for inclusion in trademark applications and registrations.
Descriptive Mark
Definition: A mark is considered merely descriptive if it describes an ingredient, quality, characteristic, function, feature, purpose or use of the specified goods or services.

Notice of Allowability
Definition: A notification to the patent applicant that the application has been placed in condition for allowance.
